Flowers in Bushwick

A few weeks ago, I picked up Virginia Poundstone’s flower flicker multiple from a show at Art in General. The piece asks participants to pick a site of exposed dirt and just spread the seeds. I chose this spot around a tree on Himrod Street. Hopefully, I’ll return in a few more weeks to find some new growths.

Let me know when the flowers grow there. It would be great to take pictures of that and give it to the artist. In that way, you are collaborating with the artist…..in my Tree Project, it functions that way. With my tree project, the seeds are still wet and they have to refreigerated before being planted, so this formatt would not work. This is a great project when the seeds are dry. Have you interest in doing art works based on promoting more green or plant? Ouch! I sound like eco-artist…….?
Actually, yes I do feel more inclined to use living plants in my work. After trying to follow all these “eco artists,” their ideas/concerns about the earth have come into my thinking process too. In the past, my work seemed to run around consumerism, and the underlying concerns of the green movement are another way of extending that conversation, so I do feel there’s a connection.
I guess there’s less anonymity in your Tree Project (http://treeproject.blogspot.com/) since you have to know all the participants who are growing the trees, but I still like the community that gets built around this process.
